Week Six Lecture Reflection

Lecture six looked at how different movie trailers have been conveyed to evoke, engage, and summarise a story line. Trailers are used to create suspense or to be informative of the subject they are displaying. Each trailer has its own strategy for revealing and concealing a scene, storyline or key elements within a movie. Today’s lecture was about how we should in our island movie have a specific, distinctive and significant strategy for revealing and concealing our island.

From today's lecture the 'Three Acts' of a successful trailer were explored; 1. The setting up of characters and particular views, 2. Then the main 'creative thrust' of the movie, 3. Then finally, the key moment, a climatic finish.

In most movie's the final scene acts as a collage or montage with an intensity of music. Brief snapshots, followed by a small sentence/key word is also a effective way of producing a successful trailer. Finally, when choosing the right song, we should aim to choose a song that has a variety of highs and lows – acting as a guideline of how long a shot should be.
